Categories of a Music Video

There are three different categories of a music video. These are Performance based, narrative, and conceptual.

Performance Based- This is often seen in most music videos, this is footage of the band performing the actual song. This seen a lot in heavy metal, rock genre of songs, where the whole band all play instruments.

Narrative- This is also seen a lot in music videos, it shows a story within the music video. This is seen a lot in love songs, where you see what is happening between the love interests, it is also generally used in all types of music genres.

Conceptual- This is seen the least in music videos, but is very popular in the modern age. The conceptual category of a music video. This is not performance or narrative based, it is something different and strange to the music video. An example of this is Plain White Ts - Hey there delilah. Where lego is used to portray the music video.

Often in music videos more than one of these categories are used in a music video, Sometimes maybe even all three of them.
